Jennylyn Mercado’s pregnancy continually makes headlines because of its delicate nature, and because of her relationship with the baby’s father. But iGMA goes beyond the usual issues to talk about the most important one: how Jennylyn feels about the coming birth of her child. Text by Jason John S. Lim. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio.
Almost seven months ago, Jennylyn Mercado made a decision to accept her fate as a mommy-to-be, knowing how it would affect her career. Now, Jennylyn is happily anticipating the day when she would be able to hold her son in her arms.

“[I’m] looking forward sa pagiging mom ko,” the singer-actress reveals, saying that she’s really excited to experience motherhood for the first time. She adds that she wants to learn “kung paano ko siya aalagaan, kung paano ko maibibigay ‘yung kailangan niya”—everything about parenting.
With her delicate pregnancy much publicized, Jennylyn explains that she’s actually okay now. “Huwag lang masyado masi-stress,” she says.
Her doctor advised her not to do anything too taxing, think negative thoughts, and stay up late: “Kasi masama talaga.”
And to accommodate the new changes in her life, Jen explains that she had to make some changes in her lifestyle as well. “Kasi dalawa na kami, kailangan hindi lang sa sarili ko, sa luho ko lang. Kailangan hati na, or more pa sa kanya.”
Even before she gives birth, Jennylyn knows that soon, more of her time would be for the baby and not for herself. But there is one thing that she is doing for herself, though—making sure that she’s eating right, so as not to have a hard time regaining her figure. “Dapat wala nang tiyan paglabas ng TV,” she says, smiling.
With just a few more months before giving birth, Jennylyn has a new perspective about being pregnant: “Ano lang, basta be strong. Siyempre, kailangan tanggapin at alagaan ‘yung baby, kasi blessing [siya] from God.”

The young celebrity was lucky enough to have the able support of family and close friends. And to those who are in the same situation as her, Jennylyn has this to say:
“Basta [dumikit] lang sila sa tao na talagang maaasahan nila at magbibigay ng happiness sa kanila. At ‘wag silang lalapit sa mga taong pessimistic,” she continues with a laugh. “‘Wag ganu’n. [Dapat] laging maging happy, [at] kailangan ‘yung family talaga nila, madedependehan.”
Of course, iGMA couldn’t pass up the chance to ask her if she already picked out a name for her baby. But Jennylyn says she is still thinking about it. Her Fanatxt subscriber, Rose Ann Edradan, has a suggestion: Rojen—a combination of her name with that of Jennylyn’s! Whatever the baby’s name, it’s a suggestion that Jennylyn will be keeping in mind.
Rose Ann was the lucky subscriber who chatted with Jennylyn during her guest appearance at Fanatxt All Stars, the radio show that aims to bring the stars closer to their fans.
